Ward Councillor Mehabub chaired the meeting, and Standing Committee Chairperson Beena Ramesh inaugurated the session. Senior Municipal Clerk Prince, Gireesh Anandan, Health Department officials Tenshi Sebastian and Jansimol V., Canalpy team members Jesna, IRTC staff Vishnu and Sharuq, CDS Vice Chairperson Lincy Biju, Asha workers, Harithakarma Sena members, Kudumbashree workers, sanitation volunteers, political party representatives, and residence association members participated.
The committee is operationalizing source-level waste management systems and Harithakarma Sena’s non-organic waste collection. The goal of the campaign is to cultivate a culture of cleanliness, prevent littering in public spaces, and make all households and areas in the municipality waste-free through public participation.
Through the Biobin Challenge, biobins will be provided to all households lacking proper waste management systems. Currently, Harithakarma Sena’s non-organic waste collection in the ward is at 36%; the campaign aims to bring this to 100%. Home visits, awareness classes, cleaning drives, and cleanliness rallies are among the activities planned in the coming days.
This initiative is supported and guided by Living Lab Alleppey, fostering community-led sustainable waste management practices and encouraging scientific handling of organic and non-organic waste.
