Surveying AS Canal: Students Join Hands for Water Body Restoration

The Living Lab Alleppey and TAGS team, in collaboration with Cherthala Municipality, has successfully completed the first phase of the AS Canal survey. Around 60 students from Alappuzha Punnapra Engineering College and Naipunya College of Management in Cherthala participated in the initiative.

The students first attended a training session. They learned techniques for canal observation and how to conduct surveys with both household and business respondents.

Three days later, they put their training into action. The primary goals of this survey were to assess the types of waste entering the canal, identify sources of pollution, and document any obstructions affecting canal flow. In this first phase, students surveyed 67 households and 70 commercial establishments, laying the groundwork for the AS canal rejuvenation campaign.
