An initiative of Alappuzha MLA, P P Chitharanjan, the Save AS Canal project is anΒ initiative to develop infrastructure to create a thriving public space along the stretch of the AS Canal stretching from Mattancherry Bridge to Kommady Bridge.
A workshop was held as a part of the project, organized by Alappuzha Municipality. Inaugurated by P Prasad, Minister for Agriculture, the workshop was joined by Municipal Chairperson, and Vice Chairperson, and rest of the officials from Alappuzha Municipality, District collector, Alappuzha DYSP, ward councillors, well wishers from Cherthala Municipality and Haritha Karma Sena. There was participation from the residents, shop owners representatives from eight wards through which the canal passes through and teachers.
Presentations on four topics- Beautification, Waste Management Public Participation and Sustainability were given by Living Lab Alleppey & IIT B team members Jishnu A M, Environmental Planner, Navya Cathareen , Environmental Engineer, M R Prem, Chairman Standing Committee Public Works Alappuzha Municipality, and C Jayakumar, Public Health Inspector, Alappuzha Municipality, respectively.
The floor was later opened for discussion followed by panel presentations.
