Punnamada Ward Embarks on Fourth Phase of Cleanliness Drive

As part of the Nirmala Bhavanam Nirmala Nagaram 2.0 – Azhakode Alappuzha campaign, the fourth phase of activities has begun in Punnamada Ward, aiming to nurture a culture where waste is never dumped in public spaces.

The ward-level sanitation committee meeting, held near St. Mary’s Church, was inaugurated by Municipal Vice Chairperson P. S. M. Hussain. Ward Councillor Sreelekha presided, while ADS Secretary Kochurani delivered the welcome address.

Councillor Kavitha, Municipal Senior Clerk Prince, Health Department officials Raghu and Tenshi Sebastian, Can Alappuzha volunteer Jesna, IRTC representatives Vishnu, Sharuq, Nermin, and Jannath, Haritha Karma Sena members, Kudumbashree volunteers, residents’ association representatives, and political party representatives actively participated.

Currently, Haritha Karma Sena collects 27% of inorganic waste from the ward. This will soon be scaled up to 100%. Every household will also be provided with biobins to ensure proper treatment of organic waste.

In the coming days, the ward will witness awareness classes at households, cleanliness drives, sanitation rallies, children’s competitions, and other community-based initiatives.

With the support of community partners like the Living Lab Alappuzha, the campaign envisions a collective effort:
“Let us unite for a cleaner, more beautiful Alappuzha.”
