Mullath Valapp Ward has taken up initiatives to achieve the status of a Fully Clean Ward. As part of the fourth phase of the Nirmala Bhavanam, Nirmala Nagaram 2.0 – Azhakode Alappuzha campaign, a Cleanliness Committee has been formed in the ward.
The meeting was presided over by Ward Councillor Selim and inaugurated by Municipal Chairperson Sowmya Raj. Health Standing Committee Chairperson Beena Ramesh, Can Alappuzha members Jesna and Sharanya, IRTC representatives Vishnu and Nermin, ADS Chairperson Laila, Haritha Karma Sena members, Kudumbashree workers, representatives of residence associations, and political party representatives participated.
Key actions include implementing household-level waste management systems, strengthening the collection of non-biodegradable waste through Haritha Karma Sena, and promoting a culture of cleanliness where waste is not dumped in public spaces. The campaign’s ultimate goal is to make all houses and areas in the municipality waste-free through public participation.
Through the Biobin Challenge, all houses without waste management systems will be provided with biobins. Currently, non-biodegradable waste collection by Haritha Karma Sena in the ward stands at 25%, which will be scaled up to 100%.
Awareness classes, house visits, sanitation drives, and cleanliness rallies are planned in the coming days to strengthen community engagement.
This initiative is being supported by Living Lab Alleppey, ensuring citizen-driven, sustainable waste management practices.
