A two-day workshop organized jointly by CanAlpy, IIT Bombay & KILA, and Alappuzha Municipality concluded successfully to develop a comprehensive master plan for solid waste management within the municipal limits of Alappuzha.
The second-day session was inaugurated by Kerala Solid Waste Management Project Director U.V. Jose IAS, with Prof. N.C. Narayanan delivering the welcome address. Rohith Joseph presented the key discussions and findings.
Experts from successful solid waste management projects across Kerala, including Manoj Kumar V (Kunnamkulam), Dr. Damodaran (IRTC), Shreyas (IRTC), Sreerag (Green Vems), Manalil Mohanan (Vatakara Municipality), and C.N. Manoj, shared challenges they faced at each stage and the solutions implemented.
Chairperson Soumya Raj, Vice Chair PSM Hussain, Health Standing Committee Chair Beena Ramesh, KSWMP Alappuzha Coordinator Khadeeja, and Municipality Health Officer KP Varghese participated in the workshop.
The CanAlpy team also presented studies on the existing waste management systems in Alappuzha and recommendations for the master plan. After two days of collaborative discussions, a consolidated draft framework for complete solid waste management in Alappuzha was prepared.
This initiative was conducted in collaboration with Living Lab Alleppey, strengthening local capacity and providing a replicable model for sustainable solid waste management.
