Housing Colony Ward on the Path to a Clean Ward

As part of the fourth phase of the Nirmala Bhavanam Nirmala Nagaram 2.0 – Azhakode Alappuzha campaign, a sanitation committee was formed in the Housing Colony Ward.

Ward Councillor Prajitha presided over the meeting, while Municipality Chairperson Soumya Raj inaugurated it. The session saw the participation of Can Alappuzha volunteers Jesna and Anzeena, IRTC members Vishnu and Shahrukh, Haritha Karma Sena workers, Kudumbashree representatives, Residence Association members, political party representatives, and several others.

The campaign aims to implement source-level waste management systems and strengthen Haritha Karma Sena’s non-biodegradable waste collection, while also cultivating a culture of cleanliness by discouraging littering in public spaces. With strong community participation, the vision is to make every household and locality in the municipality waste-free.

Through the Biobin Challenge, biobins will be provided to all houses lacking waste management facilities. Currently, non-biodegradable waste collection in the ward stands at 29%, which will be scaled up to 100%.

Upcoming activities in the ward include house visits, awareness classes, cleaning drives, and sanitation rallies.

This initiative is being carried out in partnership with Living Lab Alleppey, ensuring community-driven sustainable practices.
