Alappuzha Municipality Launches Comprehensive Cleanliness Survey Under “Nirmal Bhavan Nirmal Nagaram 2.0”
Alappuzha Municipality, in collaboration with CANALPY Alappuzha and Living Lab Alleppey, officially launched the first phase of the “Nirmal Bhavan Nirmal Nagaram 2.0” project on October 2, Gandhi Jayanti, initiating a comprehensive city-wide cleanliness survey. Over four days, the project aims to collect detailed data from every household under the municipality, targeting total waste management as part of the first phase. The first full-cleanliness ward announcement is scheduled for November 1, Kerala Piravi Day.
The initial training sessions for survey volunteers were conducted on September 29–30 across five venues: Temple of English School (Iravukad), CDS Office, Alappuzha Municipality Hall, KSCMMC Hall, and Our Lady of Fatima LP School. The sessions were held in two parts:
- Solid waste management systems were presented by IRTC officials and representatives from Kerala Sastra Sahitya Parishad.
- Mobile application-based data collection training (ODK Collect) was conducted by CANALPY representatives, including Alfiya A, Nihith James, Prathibha P, Rashmi Krishnan, Vishnu Suresh, and Vrindamol K S.
Sessions started at 9:30 AM and lasted around three hours. The program saw participation from 384 volunteer workers from 52 wards, with support from ward councilors, municipal health inspectors, and other municipal staff. The Municipality Chairperson Soumya Raj, Parliamentary Party Leader M.R. Prem, Health Standing Committee Chairperson Beena Ramesh, and Health Officer Vargheese attended and extended their greetings at all venues.
This initiative emphasizes scientific solid waste management, community engagement, and technology-enabled data collection, laying the groundwork for Alappuzha to become a fully sanitized city.
