Karalakam Ward Moves Towards Becoming a Clean Ward

Under the Nirmala Bhavanam Nirmala Nagaram 2.0 “Azhakode Alappuzha” campaign, Karalakam Ward is preparing to transform into a model clean ward. As part of the campaign’s first phase, a Cleanliness Committee was formed in the ward.
The meeting was inaugurated by Municipal Health Officer Varghese K.P., and presided over by Ward Councillor Ambili. Health Department official Girish A.S., CANALPY representative Jesna, IRTC team members Vishnu and Nermin, Haritha Karma Sena workers, Kudumbashree representatives, ASHA workers, residence association members, and political party representatives also participated.
Karalakam, with around 1,500 households, currently has only 36% inorganic waste collection through Haritha Karma Sena. The campaign aims to raise this coverage to 100%. In addition, Bio-bin systems will be ensured in every household for effective processing of organic waste.
Living Lab Alleppey is partnering in this initiative, supporting technical guidance, sustainable waste management strategies, and community engagement to make Karalakam a model for clean and green living.
