Review Meeting on the Fourth Phase of “Nirmala Bhavanam Nirmala Nagaram 2.0 – Azhakode Alappuzha” Sanitation Campaign

A review meeting was convened under the leadership of the Municipality to assess the progress of the fourth phase of the “Nirmala Bhavanam Nirmala Nagaram 2.0 – Azhakode Alappuzha” sanitation campaign.

The wards selected for this phase include Poonthoppu, Thathampally, Punnamada, District Court, Kaithavana, Mullathu Valappu, Housing Colony, Railway Station, Karalakam, Mullackal, Colorkode, Vadakkal, and Sanathanapuram.

By July 13, ward-level sanitation committees were already formed in all 13 wards. Cluster-level meetings have been completed in Poonthoppu, Vadakkal, Housing Colony, Sanathanapuram, Mullackal, and Karalakam. So far, 914 biobins have been ordered across Poonthoppu, Housing Colony, Sanathanapuram, Mullackal, Karalakam, and Thathampally wards.

The campaign aims to reach out to 10,602 households across these 13 wards. Key decisions of the meeting included:

  • Achieving 100% inorganic waste collection through mass campaigns by the Haritha Karma Sena.

  • Ensuring household-level biobin distribution for scientific organic waste management.

  • Carrying out clean-up drives and awareness activities within the scheduled timeframe.

The meeting was chaired by Health Standing Committee Chairperson Beena Ramesh and attended by Health Officer Varghese KP, Senior Clerk Prince, People’s Sanitation Committee members Jagadeeshan and Johnson, Health Standing Committee members, ward councillors, and municipal health department officials.

Representatives from Canalpy, Livng Lab Alleppey and IRTC also participated in the discussions, extending their support to the initiative.
