Research Delegation Visits Alappuzha to Study Climate Resilience and Waste Management

A research delegation attending the National Workshop jointly organized by ActionAid, Rosa Luxemburg Foundation, and KILA visited Alappuzha. The 45-member team included participants from various Indian states as well as international delegates from countries such as Germany and Norway.

The purpose of the visit was to study the climate resilience initiatives, canal rejuvenation efforts, and solid waste management practices undertaken by the Alappuzha Municipality in collaboration with CANALPY, TAGS, and KSSP.

At a session held in the Municipal Hall, Rohit Joseph from (Living Lab Alleppy coordinator ) gave a presentation on Alappuzha’s waste management practices and their evaluations. The team also visited the decentralized wastewater treatment plant (DEWATS) at Chathanad, jointly implemented by KILA and IIT Bombay, as well as the Aerobic Unit.

The visits were facilitated by Municipal Councillors Monisha and Jyothi, Municipal Health Officer Varghese KP, Malini S. Kartha, health department officials Tenshi Sebastian, Shamsudeen, Anikkuttan, CANALPY and Living Lab volunteers.
