Living Lab Alleppey: Strengthening Resilience in Kuttanad

As part of its ongoing initiatives, Living Lab Alleppey is working to build climate resilience in Kuttanad by focusing on disaster management, sustainable drinking water solutions, waste management, resilient infrastructure, and livelihood strategies. In this context, a one-day workshop was organized at St. Mary’s Church Hall, Champakulam, for Kudumbashree workers from Kainakary, Champakulam, Nedumudy, Kavalam, and Pulinkunnu panchayats. The program was held in collaboration with KILA and IIT Bombay.

The workshop featured focused sessions that connected research with the lived realities of the region. Akshay H. (Research Assistant, IIT Bombay) addressed Climate Change and the Protection of Paddy Fields. Sulaikha Beevi S. (Research Assistant, IIT Bombay) highlighted Bund Construction and Local Employment Opportunities. Jasna Sattar (Research Assistant, IIT Bombay) spoke on Education in Kuttanad and Survival Strategies. Akshay S. (Living Lab Alleppey ) presented Drinking Water Solutions for Kuttanad, while Reshma Maria Mathew (Research Assistant, IIT Bombay) shared insights on Flood Risk Assessment in the Region.

By bridging community participation with academic research, Living Lab Alleppey aims to co-create locally relevant and sustainable solutions for Kuttanad. This project not only opens space for dialogue but also builds pathways for resilience rooted in the realities of the people.
